The wish list....

Posted by Danielle Crooks on August 14, 2012 at 9:50 PM Comments comments (0)

Just some random thoughts on things that I want to get (hint: for any of you thinking about a Christmas or birthday present *lol*)...

One thing I really want is a graphics tablet. I think this is the one I am going for: Wacom Bamboo Create. With this, I will have better creativity for photos, art, whatever....

And I really need a good fisheye lens... Love the look of the fisheye BUT my is just a cheapo screw on. Focus is bad with it... I need something like this:

Adobe Lightroom... definitely a new neccessity. I really want this program!

My other big thing was a telephoto zoom with image stabilization, a new computer, and a 23" screen, but from what I understand, those are already covered...

It's 'Fair' Season again!

Although I have been very lax in wiritng for the blog on this site, it is only because I have been a very busy gal. Going back to school has taken up most of my free time. However, I get to write a lot of very interesting papers, so that makes it all okay. Also, I have decide to go for my master's degree in History.

Anyways, it's fair season be sure to visit all your local fairs and support your economy - as well as have a great time. Be sure to stop at the Fayette County fair if you are out this way and take a look for some of my photography. I sadly missed the deadlines for the Jacktown Fair and the Greene County fair, but maybe next year!

I guess I'm just not a "true explorer"...

A little off topic, but.... if you're into urban or rural exploration, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have concerning sites that I have visited/documented. I will gladly give you whatever information you ask for, as these places are meant to be explored, documented, photographed, written about, and remembered.

These places will not last forever, no matter how hard people try or whatever they may think. Time itself will take its toll, vandalism will happen regardless of sharing, and people that vandalise pretty much know where the local sites are anyway... So everyone deserves the opportunity to visit these places for themselves.

I 100% disagree with the UE elite who are so secretive and pretentious as to think that it is wrong to share this information with other explorers. Pretentiousness runs rampant in the UE world and its obvious that these people feel they are preseving something for themselves and their fellow "true explorers" by keeping this information to themselves.

I know I'll be satisfied not being a "true explorer," considering I'm in the same company as other "non-true explorers," such as Columbus, Magellan, Lewis & Clarke, and the many other historic explorers that (shame on them!) shared their explorations and discoveries with the world.

Thank you, and I shall step down from the soapbox now.

Exploration adventures...

Found a fantastic exploration site today. Must head back, as there are still three buildings left to explore! Honestly, the coolest place I've ever been in. On another note, had a picture posted in a local newspaper - the GreeneSaver :) . But lost my "Abandoned" contest. :( Was hoping to win that one so that I can put some money to a few new 'tools' - a Canon Rebel T3i, Lightroom 3, CS5 and Photomatix 4. Thats the dream list right there.

GreeneSaver Calendar...

GreeneSaver calendar entries sent in for the Fall deadline. I managed to forget and miss all the other deadlines, but I remembered this one. About time, lol. So I entered two iron bridge shots, a harvest scene photo, and a fall cemetery photo. Also entered the ImagePark's contest on Shadows yesterday. One more deadline coming up for an abandoned theme contest in November. Wish me luck!

Some randomness...

So October has been active month for me, photography wise. Been working my way around local cemeteries taking pictures, and hitting up the local fall festivals as they come up. Starting in twi weeks, I'll be takin gmy first classes at my new school. And of course, Halloween preparations have been in full swing... Should be headed out again next week for some cemetery explorations, some as far away as WV. To check out some of the September and October adventures, check out ....

Next up on the contest schedule, is Profotio's 'Abandoned' contest. Right up my alley. Wish me luck!!!

Got my first photography book printed up, looks great. It's full of my photography of the abandoned Nemacolin Mine. Looking forward to finishing up some more books! Got a list of about ten I want to create, lol.

New photo album...

Created a new photo album, inspired by my photography of a local bridge implosion. The event album will house my photos of a more journalisitic persuasion, lol. More to come!

And on another note...

Decided to head back to school for my Associate's in Web Publishing. I'll be attending the American Public University (online) starting in November. Super excited. First classes are a mandatory online learning class, Russian I, and Proficiency in Writing... And now the long search for funding. The not so fun side of going to school.

Fayette County Fair...

If you're local, head on over to the Fayette County fair and check out some of my entries into the fair's photography section. Was headed to the Greene County fair with more entries, but missed pre-registration for the photos. Who has ever heard of a pre-registration for a ocunty fair...jeez. Next up, for contests - the Friends of Ohiopyle, due at the end of August.
